SRAC Presents: Native Indian Stone Tools

 

Hammer Stones

The Native Indians used hammer stones for many tasks that involved grinding or "hammering." Just like today's hammers, they used the hammer stones to break open nuts, and to grind the hard Indian corn. They would also use the hammer stones to break bones and to peck other tools and shape them.

 

What types of tools do we use today that does the tasks that were once done by the hammer stone?
